CROOKSTON, Minn. — A northern Minnesota letter carrier faces felony charges after prosecutors say he broke into a customer’s garage and engaged in a sexual act with a dog.

According to, a Polk County man noticed the mailman was spending a long time in his garage to drop off a package.

When the dog’s owner reviewed the surveillance cameras footage in his garage, he observed the mailman with his dog at about 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6.

Even though Brian Louis George L. Chapman, 21, claimed it was consensual, he has still been charged with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, and one count of misdemeanor bestiality, for acts alleged to have taken place Feb. 6.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kyle Olson observed the footage himself and said Chapman was recorded on camera in early February entering the resident’s garage around lunchtime.

He was seen putting down a package before ‘engaging’ with the dog which was in the garage.” According to Elite Daily.

The US Postal Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Chapman’s employment status.

According to Elite Daily, bestiality is currently legal in 10 states in the country: Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming and the District of Columbia, with Possibilities to spread Nationally if pursued.

The seriousness of the crime varies from state to state. Some see bestiality as normal, others a misdemeanor, others classify it as a felony.

Some states require the defendant to undergo counseling and psychological assessments, and some prohibit the perpetrator from owning or living with animals.
