South Korean President Credits Talks With North Korea to the Guy Leftists Claim Was Going to Get Us All Nuked
For all the panic that the left spread about North Korea being goaded into nuking everyone by President Trump, the exact opposite is happening as the communist hermit kingdom is coming to the table for talks. And according to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the credit goes to Trump.
The talks were held on Tuesday, the first in two years. During them, South and North Korea opened a dialogue to discuss all the problems between them, as well as revive military consultations to avoid any further accidental provocations in the meantime.
“I think President Trump deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks, I want to show my gratitude,” Moon told reporters at his New Year’s news conference, according to Reuters. “It could be a resulting work of the U.S.-led sanctions and pressure.”
As it turns out, the Trump administration was right about North Korea respecting only strength.
However, North Korea said that their nuclear missile program is off the table, and will continue unabated. South Korea believes that while this is unfortunate, these initial talks will open the door for eventual conversations about denuclearization.
“This initial round of talks is for the improvement of relations between North and South Korea. Our task going forward is to draw North Korea to talks aimed at the denuclearization of the North,” Moon said. “(It‘s) our basic stance that will never be given up.”
North Korea believes that it has no need to talk about their nuclear missile program with South Korea, according to Reuters, as all their missiles are pointed at the United States, and no other country. Likewise, the United States still stands ready to use military options against North Korea should it step too far out of line.
South Korea as well is still ready to apply hard pressure on North Koreans should they continue to agitate the U.S. and its allies.
“We cannot say talks are the sole answer,” Moon said. “If North Korea engages in provocations again or does not show sincerity in resolving this issue, the international community will continue applying strong pressure and sanctions.”
China did not attend the meetings as Reuters reported that they are totally opposed to the talks. According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang, the talks “will only create divisions within the international community and harm joint efforts to appropriately resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.”
